How to Open HEIC on Windows
Practical ways to open or convert HEIC images on Windows.
HEIC files from iPhones can be inconvenient on Windows when a particular app or older workflow does not support them.
First, check whether your app supports HEIC
Recent Windows software may support HEIC, but support depends on the application, Windows configuration and installed components.
Convert when compatibility is the problem
If the destination only accepts JPG or PNG, converting a copy is often simpler than changing the entire workflow. Use HEIC to JPG for broad compatibility or HEIC to PNG when lossless PNG output is preferred.
Keep the original
When possible, keep the original HEIC file and create a JPG or PNG copy for the destination that needs it.
